Frequently Asked Questions
What is Peccish?
Peccish is a restaurant decision app. Whether you're eating alone or with a group, it cuts through the "I don't know, what do you want?" back-and-forth. Swipe through options solo, spin a wheel for a random pick, or run a group vote where everyone weighs in and you land on something everyone can live with.
Swipe Mode
Swipe Mode is a solo way to make the call. Set your location and filters, and Peccish deals you a stack of nearby options. Swipe right (or tap ❤) to keep a place in the running, swipe left (or tap ✗) to pass. When you've gone through the deck, your kept places get another round — keep narrowing until one winner is left standing. Good for when you want to be deliberate about the choice without just leaving it to chance.
Spin Mode
Set your location, pick filters (cuisine, price range, minimum rating), and Peccish pulls nearby restaurants from Google Maps. You curate a shortlist — add and remove places until you're happy — then spin the wheel. Whatever it lands on, that's where you're going. You can spin again if you need another push.
Vote Mode
The host creates a session, sets filters, and selects the restaurant pool. They get a 6-character invite code to share. Everyone joins (no account required) and votes on the options — tap ❤ to keep it in the running, ✗ to pass. When voting closes, the host can pick the winner themselves, go with the most-voted option, or run a weighted spin that favors crowd favorites.
What places can I search for?
Peccish isn't limited to restaurants. Use the Place Type filter to search for Coffee Shops too — useful if you're planning a casual meetup or a working afternoon. More place types are coming. Within restaurant searches, you can filter by cuisine, price range, minimum rating, and service options like takeout or delivery.
Can I get more results?
If the initial pool doesn't have enough options you like, tap Find more places to load an additional batch from a different part of your search area. Guests are prompted to sign in before using this. Signed-in users can use it a few times per day — it's capped because each search pulls live data from Google Maps.
How do ratings affect search results?
Every time you ❤ or ✗ a restaurant, that rating is saved to your account. Right now ratings are stored in your history. Future versions will use them to surface places you've liked more often and filter out ones you've passed on.
Guest vs. signed-in
Guests can use Swipe and Spin Mode immediately — no account needed. But ratings and history aren't saved between sessions. Sign in with Google or a magic link (email) to keep your history and let the app learn your preferences over time. Vote Mode is open to guests too; only the host needs to be signed in to create a session.
What are invite codes?
When a host creates a Vote session, they get a 6-character code (e.g. R4KW2M). Share it however you like — text, WhatsApp, whatever. Participants enter the code on the Join screen, pick a display name, and they're in. No app install or account required.
Can voters add restaurants?
If the host enables nominations when creating the session, voters can search for and add a restaurant mid-swipe. The nominated place gets appended to everyone's deck so it goes through the vote like any other option.
